Srinagar, July 7: The residents of Bilal Colony Soura have appealed to the Lieutenant Governor's administration to expedite the construction of a community hall in their locality.

This renewed appeal comes as part of a long-standing request from the community, highlighting the pressing need for such a facility in the area.

A delegation representing the inhabitants of Bilal Colony and surrounding areas from Nowshera to Soura emphasised that land for the proposed community hall has already been earmarked, but construction has yet to begin.

According to the delegation, this issue has been raised multiple times at various administrative levels over the past few years. However, despite their persistent efforts, no concrete action has been taken to address their concerns.

"The shortage of a proper community space is causing immense hardships to our residents," stated the delegation. "We are often forced to pitch tents on roads during marriage ceremonies and other community events. This not only inconveniences the participants but also disrupts local traffic and daily life in our area."

The residents have expressed growing concern over the delay in construction. They fear that if the project doesn't commence soon, there's a risk of unscrupulous elements attempting to claim the earmarked land. The delegation cited past incidents where similar situations have occurred, underscoring the urgency of their appeal.

Residents urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the Principal Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department, and the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir to intervene.

The proposed community hall is envisioned as a multi-purpose space that would serve various needs of the local population. It would provide a venue for social gatherings, weddings, and other community events, alleviating the current practice of using public roads for such purposes.
