Budgam, Mar 18: In a concerted effort to combat drug abuse, an awareness programme under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan – Say No to Drugs’ campaign was organised at Sheikh-ul-Alam Memorial Government Degree College, Budgam, in collaboration with District Police Budgam on Tuesday.

The event featured expert speakers, including DySP DAR Budgam, Ghulam Mohiuddin, Psychologist Dr Nisar Ahmad Wani, and In-charge of the De-addiction Centre at District Police Lines (DPL) Budgam Dr Insha Hassan Bhat.

He reiterated the institution’s commitment to sensitising students and integrating them into curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities to promote a drug-free environment.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nisar Ahmad Wani emphasised the significance of maintaining a positive outlook in life while elaborating on the psychological ramifications of substance abuse.

Dr Insha Hassan Bhat provided insights into the trauma experienced by drug addicts, citing relevant data and statistics to highlight the gravity of the issue.

DySP DAR Budgam, Ghulam Mohiuddin, discussed the enforcement of anti-drug laws, including the confiscation of properties belonging to drug peddlers.

He stressed that community involvement is crucial in curbing drug trafficking and ensuring an effective crackdown on the menace.

A debate competition was also held as part of the event, where students delivered thought-provoking speeches on the theme of drug abuse prevention.

Following the debate, an engaging question-and-answer session took place.

Syed Hina Zainab from the 6th semester emerged as the winner of the competition.

The winners were felicitated with certificates and cash prizes.

The panel of judges for the debate included Dr Naseer Ahmad, Dr Gulzar Ahmad Bhat, and Syed Mehreen Andrabi.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members.

The programme was moderated by Arshed Irshad, with Mahvish Altaf serving as the rapporteur.

The proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr Wahid Ahmad Dar.
