The lights that were installed a few years ago have gone out of order and no steps are being taken by concerned authorities for their repair. Almost the whole town reels under darkness during evening hours,” said a shopkeeper. "Only few street lights were installed around main chowk Handwara and rest of the market was left without lights causing enduring hardships for the people," said another shopkeeper. The residents claimed that they were getting only fake hopes from time to time from different sections of local administration.  They have appealed the concerned authorities to look into the matter and get the defunct lights repaired or install new lights at the earliest.
