Defence Ministry approves Rs 1.05 lakh crore indigenous military procurement proposals
New Delhi, Jul 3: The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has approved Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for 10 capital acquisition proposals worth approximately ₹1.05 lakh crore, all to be sourced indigenously.
The approvals, granted under the Buy (Indian – Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category, mark a significant boost to the country’s drive for self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
“These procurements will enhance mobility, strengthen air defence, improve supply chain management and raise the overall operational preparedness of the Armed Forces,” the Defence Ministry said in a statement. Among the systems cleared for procurement are Armoured Recovery Vehicles, Electronic Warfare Systems, Surface-to-Air Missiles, and an Integrated Common Inventory Management System for the Tri-Services.
In a push to bolster maritime security, the DAC also approved acquisition of Moored Mines, Mine Counter Measure Vessels, Super Rapid Gun Mounts, and Submersible Autonomous Vessels. These platforms are intended to mitigate risks to both naval and merchant shipping in contested waters. The Defence Ministry emphasised that all projects will be sourced from Indian vendors, aligning with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
