Defence Minister to honour fallen policemen
New Delhi, Oct 18: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will lay a wreath at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi on October 21, 2025, to mark Police Commemoration Day.
The day honours the sacrifice of 10 valiant policemen who lost their lives in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh, on October 21, 1959. A joint parade of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Delhi Police will be held as part of the ceremony.
The Defence Minister, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Members of Parliament with police backgrounds, and heads of CAPFs and Central Police Organisations (CPOs) will lay wreaths to pay tribute. Retired Director Generals, senior police officers, and other dignitaries are also expected to attend. Rajnath Singh will address the gathering at the event, which symbolises the nation’s gratitude to the police forces for their service and sacrifice.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had dedicated the National Police Memorial to the nation in 2018. Located in Chanakyapuri, the memorial comprises a 30-foot-high granite monolith symbolising strength and sacrifice, a Wall of Valour engraved with the names of martyrs, and a museum chronicling the history of Indian policing. As part of the commemorations, CAPFs and CPOs will organise various remembrance events from October 22 to 30, including police band displays, rallies, blood donation camps, and interactions with the families of martyrs. Similar events will also be held across the country.
