Defence Minister approves expansion plan for NCC, adds 3 lakh cadet vacancies

New Delhi, Mar 13: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has given the green light to a proposal aimed at bolstering the National Cadet Corps (NCC) by adding three lakh cadet vacancies. This expansion is a response to the growing demand for NCC participation from educational institutions across the nation.

Originally comprising a mere 20,000 cadets in 1948, the NCC will now see its sanctioned strength surge to 20 lakh cadets, solidifying its position as the world's largest uniformed youth organization.

With the inclusion of NCC as an elective subject under the National Education Policy 2020, this expansion aligns with the aspirations of youth aspiring to assume leadership roles in the future. The ramifications of this expansion are far-reaching, aiming to evenly distribute vacancies across all States and Union Territories while alleviating the waiting list burden for institutions eager to join the NCC.

The plan entails the establishment of four new Group Headquarters and the addition of two new NCC units.
