Decades of dry taps: Sopore residents seek end to water woes

Sopore, Nov 6: Residents of Green Town in Sopore have voiced strong resentment over an acute water shortage that has persisted for decades, saying the crisis has made daily life unbearable — particularly as winter sets in and water flow in supply lines drops further.

Locals said they have been forced to depend on alternative and often unsafe sources of water due to the absence of a reliable supply. “Every year we raise our voices, but nothing changes. We are left to suffer in silence,” said a resident, adding that the shortage becomes severe in the colder months when the water pressure in pipes almost vanishes.

Despite repeated pleas to the authorities, residents said no meaningful action has been taken to address the long-pending problem. “Water is a basic need, not a privilege. Yet we have been deprived of it for years,” said another local, appealing to the administration to restore regular and sufficient supply without delay.

Several residents accused successive governments and local politicians of neglecting the issue. “During elections, leaders visit our area with promises of clean water and better services, but once they win, we are forgotten,” said an elderly resident.
