Decade on, government school in Kangan gets its building

Kangan, Oct 14: Much to the relief for the students who are enrolled in government high school Hayan in Kangan area of Ganderbal district, the work on the new school building has been started . After wait of over a decade the Government High School Hayan will have its permanent building that will ease the sufferings of students who were studying in a temporary tin shed accommodation in absence of a proper permanent building.

MLA Kangan, Mian Mehar Ali on Tuesday laid foundation stone for the construction of the High school Hayan. He said that it was a long pending demand from the people here and during election he had assured the locals that the school will get a permanent building. MLA Kangan expressed gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, SDM Kangan and officials of R&B department for their support.

Executive Engineer R&B division Kangan, Ashiq Hussain told Greater Kashmir that the new six room school building is coming up at an estimated cost of Rs 53 lakhs and the work has been started . He said that the building will be likely completed by May next year. Meanwhile, the locals have thanked the MLA Kangan and hailed his efforts of fulfilling a long pending demand .

According to the locals, the school was previously functioning from a building which is also in a dilapidated condition, however in 2012 it was upgraded to High School level and since then the department has failed to upgrade its infrastructure and construct a permanent school building.
