Death toll from floods, landslides in Indonesia soars

New Delhi, Nov 30: The death toll from flooding and landslides on Indonesia’s Sumatra Island has risen to 41, officials confirmed on Sunday, as reported by BBC.

Rescue and evacuation efforts are still underway as major roads remain cut off and internet and electricity services are only partially restored in several districts.

Authorities said the toll had surpassed 300 earlier in the day, and the number is expected to rise further as teams attempt to reach remote areas still inaccessible due to debris and damaged infrastructure.

Monsoon rains, intensified by tropical storms, have led to some of the worst flooding in years across Southeast Asia.

The region is facing widespread devastation, with millions affected and hundreds reported dead or missing beyond Indonesia.

In Thailand, officials have confirmed 170 deaths so far, while two fatalities have been reported in the northern Malaysian state of Perlis.

Search operations and relief efforts are continuing in all three countries, though authorities warn that persistent rainfall may complicate ongoing rescue work.
