Kargil, Nov 4: After the death of a young girl e due to the sudden release of water in Suru river, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, held an important meeting with the project head of the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) Kargil and other officers.

The meeting, which took place at the LAHDC, Kargil office, addressed the incident and the subsequent response from NHPC. The NHPC representatives handed over an immediate relief of Rs 50,000 in cash to the CEC and assured the council of providing an ex gratia compensation of Rs two lakh to the victim's family promptly.

During the discussions, CEC Dr Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon emphasised the need to enhance safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Furthermore, the CEC and NHPC officials engaged in discussions about various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. CEC Akhoon requested NHPC to support the community by providing portable lodge for patient attendants at the district hospital in Kargil, enhancing the healthcare infrastructure for local residents. In a bid to boost employment opportunities for the local population, Dr Akhoon also urged NHPC to prioritise the recruitment of local candidates for positions within the corporation. Supporting the development and welfare of the region remains a key focus for both LAHDC, Kargil, and NHPC.
