DC Srinagar calls for speedy implementation under PM Surya Ghar Scheme
Srinagar, June 23: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, on Monday chaired a review meeting with engineers of the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) to assess the progress of rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar–Muft Bijli Yojana in the district.
The meeting was held at the DC Office Complex and attended by Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar, Executive Engineers, Assistant Executive Engineers (AEEs), Junior Engineers (JEs), officials from KPDCL, and the Lead District Manager (Banks).
The DC took a detailed appraisal of the status of rooftop solar installations across all four electric divisions of Srinagar. He emphasized the need to expedite the rollout of the scheme, ensuring its benefits reach every eligible household in the district.
Highlighting the long-term advantages of switching to solar energy, Labroo urged KPDCL officials to actively generate public awareness about the scheme, which offers significant subsidies and aims to promote clean, affordable electricity access.
“The PM Surya Ghar scheme must be implemented in a manner that its impact is felt at the grassroots. Our objective is to ensure maximum participation from Srinagar’s residents,” the DC said.
He directed officials to adopt a coordinated and time-bound approach to meet installation targets, stressing that the initiative is not just about energy transition, but also about economic and environmental sustainability for urban households.
