Baramulla, Aug 25: In a bid to promote sportsmanship, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, on Monday inaugurated the inter-school/inter-zonal district-level Kho-Kho tournament at Showkat Ali Sports Stadium.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the District Information Officer of Baramulla, the District Youth and Sports Officer, other officers and officials and the participating athletes.

The event marks the beginning of an exciting sporting festivity that will witness the participation of students from all educational zones of the district, showcasing their talent, energy, and competitive spirit.

DC extended his best wishes to all the participating students, encouraging them to play with dedication, unity, and sportsmanship spirit while also reminding them that participation itself is a victory as it builds character and resilience.

Speaking at the occasion, DC emphasised the importance of sports in the holistic development of children and youth. He noted that sporting events not only instil discipline, confidence, and leadership qualities among students but also help in channelling their energy in a positive direction.

On the occasion, DC also distributed sports gear and marking machines among all the 18 educational zones of the district, as well as among the Child Care Institutions Parisha and Palash, to further strengthen sports activities at the grassroots level.

The tournament, which will continue till 30th August, is being organised with the objective of nurturing young talent at the grassroots level and providing a platform for students to display their skills in one of India’s most traditional and vigorous indigenous games.
