Kupwara, Oct 6: Residents of the Bohipora Bunpora area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district have expressed strong concerns about the authorities’ failure to upgrade the transmission infrastructure in their village, which has led to severe hardships.

The residents stated that they live under constant threat due to low-lying transmission lines that, according to them, are tied to the rooftops of residential houses and trees in several places throughout the area.

“Most of the poles installed in the area were damaged decades ago, and the Power Development Department (PDD) is taking the locals for granted by leaving the wires and poles as they are, which clearly shows their callous attitude toward our genuine concerns,” said a local woman.

“At many locations, wires are even seen hanging within reach of a hand. In fact, a cow was recently electrocuted to death due to the damaged transmission infrastructure,” she added.

Residents alleged that despite approaching the concerned authorities on multiple occasions, they have yet to see any action taken on the ground.

The residents are seeking the immediate intervention of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Ayushi Sudan and the Power Development Department (PDD) to resolve the issue on a fast-track basis to prevent any tragedy in the area.
