Kupwara, Jan 14: The residents of Warpora Magam in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district have expressed resentment against authorities for failing to construct a concrete bridge in their village over nallah Kanihama resulting in enduring hardships to them.

The residents said that five years back, they constructed a makeshift wooden bridge over nallah Kanihama for their easy passage but according to the villagers the condition of the makeshift bridge has turned dilapidated posing threat to the commuters.

Residents said that the bridge once constructed would connect dozens of villages together and most importantly people may feel a sigh of relief as their orchards lie on the other side of nallah Kanihama. “Construction of the bridge would certainly ease the sufferings of locals who otherwise are forced to shoulder spray motors and other things to reach their orchards. It will also lessen up expenses and will be a big boost to the horticulture sector,” a local youth Jamsheed told Greater Kashmir.

The residents said that they brought this issue into the notice of the concerned department numerous times but nothing has been done so far thereby dashing their hopes of seeing a concrete bridge. The residents have now sought intervention of Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Handwara Sajad Gani Lone’s intervention in this regard and hoped his timely intervention may end their sufferings.
