Uri, Oct 31: The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (KPDCL) said that a new transformer has been dispatched to Bani Charunda village along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. The village has been in darkness for over a year due to officials' failure to repair the damaged transformer.

“A 63 KVA transformer has been dispatched to the Mohra Electric Subdivision for households in Bani Charunda village, Uri, near the LoC,” said Er Mateen Sherwani, EE ED Baramulla, on KPDCL's official X (formerly Twitter) account.

“The 63 KVA transformer for Bani Charunda village, Uri, near the LoC, will arrive at the site early tomorrow morning and will be installed and charged.”

The power department assured that the new transformer would be installed before October 31.

“Thirty households in Bani Charunda village, Uri, are currently receiving power supply from a nearby transformer. Their 25 KVA transformer was damaged due to overload. An upgraded 63 KVA transformer, as requested by consumers, has been arranged and will be installed before October 31,” they added.

A KPDCL official in Uri confirmed that the transformer had arrived in the village. Previously, locals had complained about the lack of electricity in the area.

“This remote village has finally received the transformer after the issue was highlighted. We hope that KPDCL will prioritise our area in the future and address our electricity-related problems promptly,” they told Greater Kashmir.
