Uri, Dec 11: Water supply to Hathlanga village along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has been disrupted due to damage to the pipeline at several points.

A delegation of local residents told Greater Kashmir that the water supply has been significantly reduced over the past week due to the pipeline damage.

“The pipeline has been damaged at several locations in the village, but despite our repeated reminders, the Jal Shakti Department has not addressed the issue,” said Talib Hussain, a local resident.

He added “The pipeline was recently damaged, and we had to repair it ourselves.”

Hussain further pointed out that since the repairs have not been properly completed and the pipeline is in poor condition, water is spilling on the ground, wasting valuable resources. “We demand proper repairs,” he said. Another local, Mansoor Ahmad, appealed to the concerned authorities to prioritise the issue. "We are suffering daily, and we urge the department to address this problem as soon as possible."

Irfan Muzamil, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Jal Shakti Department Uri told Greater Kashmir that he would look into the matter.

“Since the area is located along the LoC, smooth movement is restricted, making it difficult to reach the location and repair the pipeline,” he said.

He also noted that the water source has a low discharge, further complicating the situation.
