Jammu, Nov 12: In a remarkable achievement against cybercrime, Cyber Police Station Jammu has successfully facilitated the recovery and refund of Rs 39,37,537 to multiple victims of cyber fraud, in compliance with the directions of the court.

A total of 12 complaints involving cumulative cyber frauds amounting to Rs 59,72,000 were registered on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and entrusted to Cyber Police Station Jammu for investigation.

Through diligent follow-ups, timely coordination with financial institutions, and systematic technical verification, the investigating teams ensured the successful restitution of the defrauded amounts to the respective victims, a spokesperson of Cyber Police Jammu said.

“Cyber Police Jammu also conducts regular awareness programmes across schools, colleges, and institutions to promote cyber hygiene and safe digital practices. These efforts aim to educate citizens about emerging online frauds, financial scams, and responsible digital behaviour to build a safer cyber environment,” the spokesperson said.

Police have asked the citizens to follow essential cyber safety precautions. “They should always verify the identity of callers or senders before sharing any personal or financial information; use strong and unique passwords along with two-factor authentication, and keep their devices, operating systems, and antivirus software updated,” it was stated.

The guidelines have suggested that it is also important to regularly check bank transactions and report any suspicious activity immediately.

“At the same time, people must avoid sharing OTPs, PINs, or passwords with anyone, never click on unknown or suspicious links, and refrain from using public Wi-Fi for financial transactions. Sensitive information such as Aadhaar, PAN, or bank details should never be posted online, and downloading unauthorized or pirated software must be avoided. Educating family members, especially children and elders, about these precautions plays a vital role in maintaining overall cyber safety,” it was pointed out.
