Cyber Police has warned that leaving profiles and posts public can expose individuals to a variety of risks, including identity theft, cyber-stalking, and online harassment.

“Don’t share personal information and details online: Safeguard your privacy. Refrain from sharing sensitive details on social media. #ProtectYourPrivacy #StaySafeOnline,” Cyber Police said in another post on X.

“It’s important for users to understand that what they post online can have real-world consequences,” a senior Police official here said. “By taking advantage of privacy settings, individuals can significantly reduce their exposure to these risks.”

To protect their privacy, experts recommend that users regularly review and update their privacy settings, limit the amount of personal information shared online, and be cautious about accepting friend requests or messages from unknown individuals.

“Keep your pictures private: Control who views your photos. Adjust privacy settings to protect personal images from unauthorized access. #PrivacyProtection #SecurePhotos,” Cyber Police Kashmir said in another post on X.

“Privacy settings are like a lock on your front door,” officials said. “They are a basic security measure that everyone should use to protect themselves online.”

In addition to setting privacy preferences, experts also advise users to enable two-factor authentication, use strong, unique passwords, and be mindful of the information they share online.

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, staying informed and proactive about privacy settings is essential for maintaining personal security in an increasingly connected world.
