Cyber Police Kashmir sets digital security benchmarks

Srinagar, Jan 1: The Cyber Police, Kashmir Zone, Srinagar, has emerged as a trailblazer in the fight against online crime, setting exemplary benchmarks in 2024 by recovering a sum of Rs 4.72 crore defrauded from victims of cyber scams and returning the amount to its rightful owners.

This landmark achievement is due to the relentless efforts of the Cyber Police to shield citizens from financial losses and foster a safer digital environment.

The Cyber Police registered 30 First Information Reports (FIRs), 10 of which were chargesheeted and submitted to the courts for judicial proceedings.

The unit resolved 577 complaints filed through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCCRP) and addressed 1700 other miscellaneous complaints, reflecting its robust operational capabilities and commitment to public grievance redressal.

One of the notable highlights of the year was the action taken against 1833 fake SIM cards that were being misused in various cybercrimes.

The Cyber Police also successfully recovered 150 missing mobile phones, valued in lakhs of rupees, restoring them to their rightful owners.

These efforts underline the department’s proactive approach to thwarting cybercriminal activities and ensuring justice for victims.

In addition to its operational achievements, the Cyber Police Kashmir Zone placed a strong emphasis on public awareness.

Numerous workshops and awareness campaigns were conducted in educational institutions, government offices, and other public forums to educate citizens about emerging cyber threats and the importance of online safety practices.

From safeguarding personal data to recognising phishing scams, these sessions empowered citizens to navigate the digital landscape.

Beyond financial fraud, the unit has focused on addressing crimes like the misuse of social media platforms, online impersonation, and other digital threats.

By leveraging advanced technology, collaborating with national cybercrime agencies, and fostering community engagement, the Cyber Police has set a precedent for effective policing in the digital age.

The remarkable achievements of the Cyber Police Kashmir Zone have not only garnered praise from people but have also set new standards for cybercrime prevention and investigation in Kashmir.
