Srinagar, Sep 12: Cyber Police Kashmir on Thursday issued a public advisory urging social media users and WhatsApp group administrators to exercise caution and avoid spreading misinformation.

The advisory stressed the importance of responsible online behavior, warning that the dissemination of unverified or false information could lead to unnecessary public panic.

In a post on platform X (formerly Twitter), the Cyber Police highlighted the dangers of sharing unconfirmed news, stating, "Posting or sharing unverified or unconfirmed news can lead to unnecessary panic and misinformation among the public. Refrain from spreading rumors or misinformation."

The advisory also placed particular responsibility on WhatsApp group admins, reminding them to ensure that the content shared within their groups is authentic and verified. Violations could result in legal action under the IT Act, the Cyber Police warned.

"Group Admins are responsible for ensuring the content shared in WhatsApp groups is authentic and verified. Violating this can result in legal action under the IT Act. Stay informed, stay responsible!" the post concluded.

This advisory serves as a reminder to all users to be vigilant and verify information before sharing it online, in an effort to prevent the spread of rumors and panic.
