Cyber Police issue advisory for social media users
Srinagar, Sep 29: Cyber Police Kashmir on Sunday issued a stern advisory, warning the public against posting inflammatory or divisive content online that could disturb communal harmony in the region.
The advisory, posted on the social media platform X, highlighted a noticeable uptick in provocative posts following the killing of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah by Israeli airstrikes.
"We’ve noticed inflammatory and sectarian posts being shared on social media, threatening communal harmony," Cyber Police Kashmir said. "We urge everyone to refrain from posting or engaging in such divisive content."
The police stressed that any attempt to incite violence or promote sectarian hatred would be met with strict legal consequences. “Any individual found posting or sharing sectarian, inflammatory, or provocative content aimed at disturbing peace will face strict legal action under the relevant sections of law,” the advisory read.
The authorities further appealed for calm, urging the public to work together in preserving peace and stability. "Let’s work together to maintain the unity and tranquility of Kashmir," they said.
The Hezbollah chief’s killing has struck a chord among sections of the Kashmiri Shia community, resulting in a swift mobilisation of protestors. Large crowds were seen gathering in parts of Srinagar and Budgam, holding banners and chanting slogans denouncing the airstrike. The protests have so far been peaceful.
Security agencies have been put on alert, particularly with fears that online provocations could exacerbate the situation. Authorities are closely monitoring social media platforms for any content that could fuel tensions, and strict measures are being put in place to prevent the spread of sectarian discord.
