CURTAIN RAISER: GMC Srinagar to organise CME and Awareness Programme on Dementia today
Srinagar, Sep 24: The Department of Neurology, Superspeciality Hospital and Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, is organising a Continuing Medical Education (CME) and awareness programme on Dementia on September 25 at the GMC Auditorium.
The programme will be attended by neurologists, doctors, postgraduate and undergraduate medical students, as well as B.Sc. Neuroscience students and allied paramedical staff and students.
The sessions will focus on the clinical, social, and community aspects of dementia, with the objective of enhancing medical knowledge and promoting awareness about this growing public health concern. There will be special focus on treatable dementias, how to identify and treat them.
This year’s theme is “Ask about dementia” and going with the theme there will be a special panel discussion for caregivers to address common questions, caregiving challenges, and the wider social issues linked to dementia. Prof Iffat Hassan (Principal and Dean of GMC Srinagar) is the patron of the CME and will inaugurate the CME.
Prof. Bashir Ahmad Sanaie, Head of the Department of Neurology and Organising Chairman, added: “Rising life expectancy has brought with it an increase in dementia cases. This CME is an important step toward improving both clinical practice and community awareness in the Valley.”
Dr. Sheikh Hilal Ahmad, Organising Secretary, said: “Dementia is not just a medical condition but also a social challenge that affects patients, families, and the community.”
