CUK’s SLS holds National Youth Parliament-2023
Ganderbal, Nov 20: The Department of Law, School of Legal Studies (SLS) Central University of Kashmir (CUK) on Monday organised a “National Youth Parliament-2023” on “Common Civil Code Bill,” at varsity’s Tulmulla campus.
Former MLA, Ganderbal Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar, Dean School of Legal Studies Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, Academic Coordinator Dr. Hilal Ahmad Najar, event convenor Asstistant Prof. Muhammad Yousuf Dar, faculty members, research scholars and students were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar said that the National Youth Parliament plays a pivotal role in making the youth aware of our great democratic values, and traditions to strengthen the democracy.
He asked the students to learn and adopt the democratic values and ethics of democracy and devote themselves to promote harmony and tradition in this largest democratic country in the world.
He further encouraged the students to inculcate and popularise the practices and process of Parliamentary proceedings. Jabbar asked the students to fix a goal in their lives and work with utmost honesty, dedication and hard work to achieve the same.
Jabbar also urged the Law Department to organise awareness programmes about the rampant drug abuse in the schools and colleges of the district to sensitise the students about its adverse and ill effects.
In his speech, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, said the event like this provides a platform to the young individuals to engage in constructive dialogue, express their perspectives on pressing issues, and foster a spirit of active citizenship.
“Young minds converge to showcase their eloquence, critical thinking, and leadership skills in the Youth Parliament,” he said.
He said that the event also acquaints the students with the practices and procedures of Parliament, techniques of discussion and debate, and develops their self-confidence, quality of leadership, and the art and skill of effective oratory. He said the programmes like “youth parliament” go a long way in building civic as well as professional competencies among the students.
Later the students conducted the proceedings in the youth parliament. The programme was conducted by Asst Professor Bilal Ahmad Ganaie while Dr. Hilal Ahmad Najar proposed the vote of thanks.
