CUK’s DCJ, IT Deptts launch weeklong student induction programme
Ganderbal, Aug 11: The Department of Communication and Journalism (School of Media Studies), in collaboration with the Department of Information Technology (School of Engineering) at the Central University of Kashmir (CUK), on Monday launched a weeklong Student Induction Programme (SIP) *“Deeksharambh”* for newly admitted Postgraduate (PG) and Undergraduate (UG) students at the Tulmulla campus. The programme is being held in both offline and online modes.
Welcoming the new batch, Dean Academic Affairs and Dean School of Media Studies, Prof. Shahid Rasool, congratulated the students on securing admission to CUKashmir and underscored the significance of induction programmes in shaping academic journeys.
“The university aims to nurture not just skilled professionals, but responsible citizens. This programme will help you connect with your peers, teachers, and the institution’s values,” Prof. Rasool said. He stressed that higher education should be a transformative process—one that develops lifelong learners, responsible citizens, and agents of positive change.
Highlighting student-centric initiatives such as *Earn While Learn*, *Student Aid Fund*, and a *Credit-Based Fee Structure*, Prof. Rasool urged students to make full use of these opportunities. He called for an active, inquiry-driven learning approach beyond rote memorisation, with a focus on critical thinking, logical reasoning, and meaningful application of knowledge.
Outlining his vision, Prof. Rasool identified five attributes every student should cultivate: Curiosity, Openness, Discipline, Ethics, and Service.
Dean, School of Physical and Chemical Sciences and Dean, School of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Mohammad Yousuf, emphasised that education is not merely about acquiring knowledge but applying it creatively and purposefully. He noted the availability of highly qualified faculty and abundant resources at CUK, encouraging students to explore, innovate, and remain disciplined in their academic pursuits.
Earlier, Head of the Department of Communication and Journalism, Dr. Arif Nazir, urged students to take advantage of the academic resources, co-curricular activities, and mentorship opportunities provided by the university. Deeksharambh is designed not only to familiarise you with the curriculum but to foster holistic personal and professional growth,” he said.
Faculty members from both departments attended the event. Over the week, administrative officers will brief students on the facilities and services available at the university.
