Ganderbal, Nov 19: The Central University of Kashmir (CUK) held a condolence gathering across its campuses to honour the memory of its founding Vice-Chancellor, Prof Abdul Wahid Qureshi, who passed away on Sunday.

The meetings, organised at the Green Campus, Tulmulla Campus, Arts Campus, and Nunar Campus, witnessed participation from faculty members, administrative staff, research scholars, and students. Attendees fondly remembered Prof Qureshi’s immense contributions towards the establishment of the CUKashmir and its academic growth and progress and paid heartfelt tributes.

Delivering the Vice-Chancellor’s condolence message, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Shahid Rasool, conveyed the profound grief expressed by Vice-Chancellor Prof A Ravinder Nath. The message described Prof Qureshi’s demise as a moment of deep mourning and reflection, emphasising his transformative vision, unwavering dedication, and pivotal role in establishing the university on strong academic and administrative foundations.

Speaking at the gathering, Prof Shahid Rasool highlighted Prof Qureshi’s stature as a distinguished economist and visionary leader who was instrumental in shaping CUK’s identity. “His leadership and unwavering commitment to academic excellence laid the foundation for the institution’s success,” Prof Rasool remarked.

Dean of the School of Legal Studies, Prof Farooq Ahmad Mir, hailed Prof Qureshi as a pioneer whose foresight shaped the university’s path. “As a founding leader, he designed the roadmap for CUK’s growth. His tireless efforts were pivotal in fostering an environment of learning and innovation,” he noted.

Registrar Prof M Afzal Zargar, in his message, affirmed the university’s commitment to upholding Prof Qureshi’s legacy. “His humility, wisdom, and generosity earned him deep respect from all who worked with him. His enduring passion for education will inspire our journey forward,” he said.

Several faculty members shared personal anecdotes, recalling Prof Qureshi’s humility and noble character. In a message of solidarity, the faculty and staff extended their sympathies to Prof Qureshi’s family. “We stand with his family during this difficult time and pray for the eternal peace of his soul,” they said.
