CUK observes Swachhata Divas, students lead cleanliness initiatives
Ganderbal, Oct 2: As part of the nationwide Seva Parv-2025 campaign, the Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) marked the culmination of the fortnight-long “Swachhata Hi Seva 2025” with a programme titled Swachhata Divas at its Tulmulla Campus on Thursday.
The event was jointly organised by the Directorate of Students Welfare (DSW) and the National Service Scheme (NSS), with participation from faculty members, scholars, and students across the university.
The programme was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof. A. Ravinder Nath and attended by Dean, School of Legal Studies, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir; Dean, School of Life Sciences, Prof. Abid Hamid Dar; Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Irfan Aalam; HoD Physical Education, Dr. Kaukab Azeem; NSS Coordinator, Dr. Shabir Ahmad; Youth Welfare Officers, students, and faculty members.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath lauded the dedication of students who participated in various activities during Seva Parv-2025. He highlighted that such initiatives foster camaraderie, discipline, and ethical values among students, while encouraging critical thinking, collaboration, and innovative ideas for nation-building. The Vice-Chancellor also emphasised the link between cleanliness and sustainability, urging the administration to install waste-segregating bins across campuses and promote controlled use of plastics. He felicitated winners of competitions held during the campaign and joined students and staff in a campus cleanliness drive.
Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, Dean of the School of Legal Studies, invoked Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy on cleanliness, stressing that it goes beyond physical spaces to include thoughts, actions, governance, and social conduct. Quoting Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, he said a truly clean nation requires collective responsibility from parents, teachers, and students alike.
Prof. Abid Hamid Dar, Dean of the School of Life Sciences, praised the efforts of students, faculty, and organisers, highlighting the role of cleanliness in achieving Viksit Bharat @2047, the vision of a developed India. He stressed that a pollution-free environment is critical for national progress.
