CUK Kashmir to host all India Inter-University Winter Games at Gulmarg
Srinagar, Jan 28: The Central University of Kashmir is all set to host the All India Inter-University Winter Games 2024-25 at Gulmarg, showcasing skiing and ice stock competitions for both male and female athletes.
According to a release issued to Greater Kashmir, from January 30th to 31st, twenty-seven universities across India, with over 200 athletes, will compete in the thrilling winter sports events.
The games, as per the CUK, aim to promote sportsmanship, encourage participation in winter sports, and boost Gulmarg's recognition as a premier winter sports destination in India.
On January 30th, 2025, the Giant Slalom event will occur for both genders, followed by the Slalom ski event on January 31st. The ice stock event will be held on both days for male and female athletes.
In this edition of the AIU Winter Games, twenty-seven universities from various parts of India will participate, with a total of 200 athletes competing.
The athletes, along with their managers and coaches, will arrive in Srinagar on January 29th, where they will be accommodated at the Kashmir Palace Hotel. On the morning of January 30th, they will travel to Gulmarg in university buses. The inauguration ceremony will be held on January 30th at Gulmarg, with the valedictory function scheduled for the evening of January 31st, 2025.
The Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Jammu and Kashmir, as per the university, has consented to be the chief guest at the inauguration.
Highlighting the event objectives, the release states that the event aims to promote winter sports and encourage university athletes to participate in sports like skiing and ice stock.
For skill development, it says the event provides a platform for athletes to showcase their skills and compete on a national level and that it highlights the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Gulmarg, thereby boosting regional tourism.
The event also highlights the need to facilitate interaction among universities to promote sports development and also to raise awareness about the importance of physical activity and fitness.
The universities participating in the event are Darshan University Rajkot, LNIPE, Gwalior, Shivaji University, Kolhapur, Rashtriya Raksha University Gujarat, Maa Shakumbhari University Uttar Pradesh, Vivekananda Global University, Jaipur, Shri Khushal Das University, Hanumangarh, Career Point University, Hamirpur (HP), P Savani University Gujarat, Central University of Kashmir, Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth, Deemed to be University, Ernakulam, Kerala, Islamic University Kashmir, Dr.Babba Saheb Ambedkar University Gujrat, LNCT University Bhopal, CT University, Punjab, Integral University Lucknow, Chandigarh University, University of Lucknow, II MT University Merit Uttar Pradesh, Indira Gandhi TMS University, Zero, Arunachal Pradesh, Shridhar University Rajasthan, Bhagwant University Rajasthan, University of Kota Rajasthan, Paher University, Udaipur, CH Ranbir Singh University Haryana, Shree Guru Singh Tercentenary University, Haryana, and Dr. Yaswant Singh Parmar University Of Horticulture and Forestry Himachal Pradesh-Solan.
