CUK hosts lecture on building respectful workspaces
Ganderbal, Nov 3: The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of the Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) organised an expert lecture on “Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual Harassment of Women Employees and Students in Higher Education Institutions.” The lecture was delivered by Prof. Viney Kapoor Mehra, noted academician, legal awareness expert, and former Vice-Chancellor of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University, Sonipat.
Chairperson ICC, Prof. Sandhya Tiwari, highlighted the committee’s initiatives to promote awareness and sensitisation on gender equity at the university. She underscored the ICC’s crucial role in preventing and addressing sexual harassment and expressed gratitude to Vice-Chancellor Prof. A. Ravinder Nath and the administration for their consistent support.
In her lecture, Prof. Mehra provided a detailed overview of the Vishaka Guidelines (1997) and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. She discussed institutional responsibilities in ensuring safe and inclusive campuses and stressed the importance of awareness drives, gender sensitisation programmes, and robust redressal mechanisms.
