Addressing the participants, Prof Fayaz Nikka emphasised that the newly elected government in Jammu and Kashmir needs to work closely with the Central Government to alleviate the suffering of the masses. He noted that a strong and cordial relationship through a convergence in a federal structure is essential under the concurrent list of powers between Central and State Governments.

He opined that the larger participation of people in the electoral process reflects a high level of aspirations. “The government has a responsibility to fulfill the promises made in the election manifesto in letter and spirit, involving all stakeholders with proportional representation from both regions,” Prof Nikka added. He expressed optimism that the government will enhance the “happiness index” of the people by adopting welfare measures and addressing unemployment.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Naidu Ashok praised the people of Jammu and Kashmir for their overwhelming participation in the electoral process.

“The poll percentage suggests that people have surpassed the national average,” he stated, adding, “The people of Jammu and Kashmir have given a clear verdict, reposing their faith in the democratic process and avoiding the possibility of a coalition government.”
