Jammu, Aug 31: In a significant move ahead of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the high-ranking officials of the Army, Police, BSF and sister Intelligence agencies held a joint Intelligence and Security Conference to plan “initiatives for aligning tactics and strategies and improve interoperability of all stakeholders in critical situations.”

The conference assumed significance amid growing security challenges on account of the recent spurt in terrorist violence, movement of foreign terrorists infiltrated to this side of the border, across the Jammu Frontier, comprising Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts.

The meeting, held at Mamun Military Station on August 30, marked a “critical step towards strengthening the partnership between military and civilian intelligence and law enforcement agencies to address emerging threats and ensure public safety.”

“In a significant move to enhance security and foster inter-agency cooperation, this Joint Intelligence and Security Conference, which lasted almost two hours, brought together key figures and was chaired by Lt Gen Rajan Sharawat, GOC 9 Corps. Major General Vikram Sharma, GOC Gurj Division was also present.

During the session, participants engaged in comprehensive discussions focusing on a variety of pressing issues, including inter-agency coordination and communication. Emphasis was placed on enhancing real-time communication between the Army and other civil intelligence and law enforcement agencies to improve response times and operational efficiency during crises.

“With a focus on shared Intelligence, all entities reviewed protocols for intelligence-sharing, ensuring that information critical to regional and local security is accurately and promptly exchanged ensuring timeliness and optimum response,” the spokesperson said.

During the conference, plans were laid out for joint initiatives designed to align tactics and strategies, thereby improving the interoperability of all stakeholders in critical situations.

“The meeting also involved a detailed review of current crisis response strategies, with an eye towards refining procedures to better address complex and evolving threats. Recognizing the importance of public trust and cooperation, both agencies discussed strategies to enhance community outreach and engage with residents to promote safety and security,” an Army spokesperson said.

Delineating the significance of the conference, GOC 9 Corps said that this review meeting signified a crucial step towards fortifying collective security efforts.

“By strengthening our collaboration and inter-agency coordination, we are better equipped to respond to challenges and protect our nation and its citizens,” he said.

The joint security review meeting concluded with a shared commitment to ongoing collaboration and continuous improvement in security practices.

All the agencies reaffirmed their dedication to working together seamlessly to address any potential threats and ensure the well-being of the public.
