CRS inspects new rail line between Banihal-Khari Railway Stations

Ramban, Jan 3: Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) Dinesh Chand Deshwal Wednesday conducted the second statutory inspection of the newly laid 14.869 km rail line between Banihal and Khari on the Katra Banihal section of the Udhampur-Srinagar- Baramulla-Rail- Link (USBRL) on Wednesday.

According to official sources, the CRS accompanied by senior railway officers of different sections started an inspection on a motor trolley from Banihal to Khari railway station.

They inspected electric traction installation tracks, tunnels, viaducts Railway stations at Khari and other infrastructures.

Later a high-speed train comprising five couches was also conducted from Banihal –Khari (to and fro) on the newly laid track in the late Wednesday afternoon.

The Commissioner of Railway Safety was accompanied by Chief administrative officers’ Sources in the Railway informed that this was the final inspection of

Dinesh Chand Deshwal, before starting the inspection of the newly laid rail-line, told reporters at Banihal that the infrastructure was already ready for commissioning. “This is a process that we are completing because before starting the train operations, passenger safety is very important so the central government has legislated certain procedures for testing and commissioning. There are certain issues regarding the start of commercial operations. We are taking stock of all the things related to the commissioning and starting the train operation,” he added.

Sources in Northern Railway informed the CRS, after inspection, would submit his report to the government for further action.

“The second round of statutory inspection by Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) Dinesh Chand Deshwal for the opening of the 14.869 km rail line between Banihal and Khari on the Katra-Banihal section was successfully conducted,” they added.

According to Northern Railway, the USBRL project will be completed in March, 2024.
