Jammu, Aug 17: An Inspector of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was killed in action, during an encounter between security forces and terrorists at the Cheel area of Duddu in Udhampur district on Monday.

Police said that the encounter began when the terrorists hiding in dense forests opened an indiscriminate firing on a joint patrolling party of CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) this afternoon at around 3.30 pm.

The fire was retaliated in equal measure. During the ensuing exchange of fire, the CRPF Inspector, identified as Kuldeep Kumar of the 187th Battalion, suffered a fatal injury. He died on the spot.

“During routine area domination patrol at Cheel in Duddu, an exchange of fire took place between terrorists and joint parties of JKP and CRPF. In the encounter, one Inspector of CRPF suffered bullet injuries and attained martyrdom. Operation continues,” police said, in its official statement, posted on ‘X’.

“Reinforcements were rushed to the encounter site, however, terrorists managed to escape. Massive searches were underway to hunt down the terrorists,” police added.

Within a week, this was the second fatal encounter. Earlier on August 14, an army Captain was killed in action in Doda district. A terrorist was also killed in the Doda encounter.
