Crime Branch secures conviction in 2 cases

Srinagar, Aug 5: The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch (CB) Kashmir has secured convictions in two separate criminal cases, one involving fake marks sheet and the other relates to duping a foreign national.

A statement issued by the CB here attested to these convictions and described the same “a significant achievement in its ongoing efforts to combat economic crimes in the region”. The statement indicated that in the first case, the Court of City Judge Srinagar convicted the accused Mukhtar Ahmad Guroo and Nazir Ahmad Guroo, sons of Gulla Muhammad Guroo of Abi-Karpora, Nehru Park Dalgate Srinagar.

The conviction followed a thorough investigation and diligent prosecution by Crime Branch Kashmir in case FIR No. 24/2008 under Section 420, 109-B RPC of P/S Crime Branch Kashmir (now Economic Offences Wing), according to the Crime Branch statement.

The case, the CB said, pertained to grabbing of an amount of Rs 34 lakhs from the complainant on the pretext of purchase of a residential immovable property, concealing the fact that the complainant being a foreigner could not do so. In the case the accused were found guilty of causing substantial financial loss to the complainant.

After a marathon trial of 12 years the Court convicted both the accused individuals to simple imprisonment for a period of two years and imposed a fine of Rs 5000 per offence.

In the second case, Court of City Judge Srinagar delivered a verdict in case FIR No. 54/2002 under Section 420, 468, 471, 120-B RPC of P/S Crime Branch Kashmir against seven accused individuals involved in preparing and submitting fake marks card of 10th class for seeking admission for one of the accused in Higher Secondary School. The accused have acted in connivance with each other.

Following a detailed investigation that uncovered strong documentary, oral evidence and dedicated thorough legal pursuit leading to conviction, the Court convicted all seven accused individuals to simple imprisonment for a period of two years and imposed a fine of Rs 5000 per offence.

“These convictions reflect the commitment of Crime Branch Kashmir to uphold the rule of law and bring to justice those involved in white-collar crimes. The department continues to pursue all such cases with professionalism and legal precision,” it said.
