Crime Branch Kashmir arrests fraudster impersonating LG’s duty officer in Rs 50 lakh scam

Srinagar, Sept 15: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has arrested a fraudster for impersonating a Duty Officer to the Lieutenant Governor and duping people of over ₹50 lakh through a fake job and land scam.

The accused has been identified as Abdul Majid Mir, son of Abdul Rahim Mir, a resident of Lishtiyal, Kupwara. He was arrested in connection with FIR No. 10/2025, registered under relevant sections of law.

According to officials, the case was initiated after multiple complaints alleged that Mir posed as a close aide to the LG and promised government jobs as well as land allotments at SDA Colony, Bemina. In return, he reportedly collected large sums of money from victims.

Investigations revealed that the accused issued fake appointment letters purportedly from the Airport Authority of India and forged land allotment documents allegedly from the Srinagar Development Authority (SDA).

“On the basis of evidence, offences under Sections 419, 420, 467, 468, and 471 IPC have been invoked against the accused,” a Crime Branch official said.

Mir was produced before the Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Srinagar, which remanded him to five days of police custody for further investigation.
