Create more parking lots
Thousands of vehicles move daily on the roads in Srinagar city. Going by the number of the vehicles, there is a definite shortage of paid parking slots. The number of multilayer parking slots is only a few. Whatever other parking places are available those do not have adequate space and get almost fully booked during early morning hours.
There is a need to create parking slots in a good number across the city so that people are not forced to park their vehicles unnecessarily on roads and disrupt the traffic movement. Sometimes, the wrongly parked vehicles are lifted by traffic police and owners are fined also. Despite this action by traffic police there is no end to the wrong parking on roads. Parking vehicles on roads and affecting traffic flow is a wrong approach and has to be given up. But the authorities too must establish the paid parking places in required number, so that vehicles are safely parked there and no problem emerges on roads.
Special attention needs to be paid towards the shortage or absence of parking slots inside or in the neighbourhood of the hospitals. In view of the huge rush to the major hospitals in the city, whatever the parking space available it proves insufficient. Some hospitals including the Super Speciality Hospital Shireen Bagh has no parking space available for the vehicles of patients, attendants and other visitors. The space available is utilised by the staff of the hospital.
Those visiting the hospital have then to move towards the overburdened parking slots at SMHS Hospitals. Sometimes they get a space there and sometimes not. If they do not get space there they have to go in different directions in search of parking slots. This way lot of their time gets wasted in finding a proper parking place. Some other hospitals and health facilities in Srinagar and towns have the same problem. Parking places have to be created so that those visiting hospitals do not face any inconvenience and get timely treatment. The concerned authorities must address the problem of shortage of parking slots. More parking lots have to be established to meet the demand.
