Create more awareness about MCC : G M Shaheen
Srinagar, Sep 12: J&K JD (U) President G M Shaheen today emphasised the need for the Election Commission of India (ECI) to create more awareness programmes on the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
Addressing a press conference, he highlighted that many citizens, particularly those in rural areas, may not be literate or have access to online manuals. Shaheen suggested that rather than taking immediate legal action when MCC violations occur, a first warning should be issued to educate the public.
Referring to the release of Er Rashid on interim bail, he expressed respect for the court's decision. He raised the issue that if a prominent figure like Er Rasheed, who had been charged under UAPA, is granted bail, then the same should apply to other political prisoners under similar charges. He called for equitable treatment for all, regardless of status.
“The Janata Dal United stands firm in promoting justice and ensuring that the rights of all citizens, particularly political prisoners, are upheld with fairness and dignity,” he said.
