Crackdown against illegal mining: Police seize several vehicles in Awantipora, 2 arrested

Srinagar, Dec 09: In continuation of its ongoing drive against illegal mining, Jammu and Kashmir Police have seized vehicles including a mechanized mortar boat involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in Awantipora and arrested two accused persons involved in the commission o crime.

In Awantipora, police party of Police Station Awantipora headed by SHO PS Awantipora seized three Dumpers bearing registration JK01AQ-7666, JK03K-5274, JK03K-6088 and 01 JCB without registration number, used in illegal excavation and transportation of minerals in Lethpora Awantipora.

Similarly, police party of Police Post Reshipora seized one Mechanized motor boat being used by two persons for illicit extraction of sand from river Jehulm at Datpora Reshipora. They have been identified as Imran Rashid Dar, son of Ab Rashid Dar, and Ubaid Maqsood Dar, son of Maqsood Ahmad Dar, both residents of Dogripora.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation have been initiated.

Police requested community members to come forward with any information regarding illegal mineral-related activities in their neighbourhood.
