New Delhi, May 1: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has formally called for a special joint session of Parliament in response to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, urging national unity and a decisive political response. 1. Radhakrishnan, a Member of Parliament from Alathur, Kerala, and the CPI(M) leader in the Lok Sabha, addressed his letter to the Speaker of the House. “The terrorist attack in Pahalgam has outraged every Indian. At this critical time, India must show that we will always stand together against terrorism,” he wrote. He emphasised the need for a joint session so that “representatives of the people can show their unity and support.”

In a similar appeal, Bikashranjan Bhattacharyya, senior advocate and CPI(M) leader in the Rajya Sabha, urged the Chairman to convene a special session “at the earliest.” Bhattacharyya described the attack as a moment of national crisis, stating, “My party CPI(M) believes that a special session of both Houses of Parliament should be convened, where the representatives of the people can show their unity and support.” The coordinated appeal reflects the party’s demand for an immediate and unified institutional response to terrorism. It also seeks to place Parliament at the forefront of the national dialogue on security and solidarity. The attack in Pahalgam has sparked political reactions across party lines, with opposition leaders calling for greater transparency and a comprehensive strategy to tackle militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.
