CPI backs NC-Congress alliance

Srinagar, Aug 25: Jammu and Kashmir State Council of Communist Party of India (CPI) on Sunday extended its support to the National Conference-Congress alliance.

In a meeting held here in view of the upcoming Assembly elections, former Rajya Sabha member and National Secretariat member Aziz Pasha, and Annie Raja, general secretary of National Federation of Indian Women ( NFIW) said that the party, as the part of larger INDIA alliance, has extended its full support to the National Conference-Congress alliance.

“It is imperative to strengthen the alliance to keep the BJP and its proxies at bay”, said the leaders.

They said that the elections in the region are crucial as they are being held after a gap of a good ten years amidst a changed political landscape.

The leaders said that the communal forces are making desperate attempts to communalise the electorate for their vested interests.

The national leaders informed that it was decided to support the alliance candidate from all the seats in Kashmir Valley and field candidates from three Assembly segments of Jammu.

However, the leaders added that they are in consultation with the alliance partners to reach consensus on these seats.
