Court sentences 4 drunkards to community service
Srinagar, April 4: A court here Friday sentenced four residents from Srinagar to community service for twelve hours spanning four days after they were caught in an inebriated state and causing public nuisance.
Court of 1st Additional Munsiff Srinagar, Zirham Hamid, sentenced the four drunkards to community service in response to a complaint filed by police under section 355 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Section 355 of BNS addresses misconduct in public by a drunken person, punishing individuals who appear intoxicated in public places and cause annoyance or inconvenience to others.
According to the complaint, on April 1 police station Nowhatta received credible information that some drunkards were causing annoyance and abusing the general public at the main road Sheikh Colony Nowhatta.
Following the information, a police party was deputed and four persons, Manzoor Ahmad Malla, Javid Ahmad Qureshi, Parveez Ahmad Monchi and Shabir Ahmad Sheikh were apprehended and brought to police station in an apparent drunken and intoxicated state.
Subsequently, the police said, the four persons were produced before the medical board at SMHS Hospital for medical examination which confirmed that the accused persons had consumed alcohol and resultantly they caused annoyance to the general Public.
“I am of the considered view that all the accused be directed to perform community service and to do the cleaning and maintenance work of the shrine of Mukhdoom Sahib and Government Girls Higher Secondary School Nowhatta,” the court said in its order.
The Court directed the accused to report to the ward officer in-charge of Mukhdoom Sahib Ziyarat and do the cleaning and maintenance work for two days from April 5 to 6 from 8 AM to 11 AM.
The Court also directed the accused to do the cleaning and sweeping work at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Nowhatta for two days from April 7 to 8 from 9 AM to 12 PM.
The Court directed SHO Police Station Nowhatta to get arrangements made to monitor performance and conduct of the accused during the community service even as it asked him to collect photographic evidence and get a satisfaction report furnished from the ward incharge Makhdoom Sahib (RA) Ziyarat .
The court also directed the principal Government Higher Secondary School Nowhatta to file a satisfactory report along with photographic evidence about the accused.
The Court directed SHO Police Station Nowhatta to file a compliance report on April 11 after collecting a satisfaction report from the principal government higher secondary school and ward in charge Makhdoom Sahab (RA) Ziyarat.
