Court remands accused Patwari to 14-day judicial custody
Jammu, Apr 27: The Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption (CBI cases), Jammu Sunday remanded a Patwari, arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for accepting a bribe, to judicial custody for 14 days.
Earlier, the CBI had arrested this Patwari of Sudh Mahadev in Chenani of Udhampur district while accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from the complainant.
After the accused was produced before the Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption (CBI cases), Jammu on Sunday, the Court remanded him (accused) to judicial custody for 14 days.
A CBI spokesperson said that a case was registered against the accused on a complaint. The complainant had applied for the issuance of a Fard through a designated online portal. It was alleged that two applications of the complainant were deliberately rejected by the Patwari without any valid reason.
Further, the complainant allegedly met the accused Patwari, who demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant for processing and issuing the Fard.
After negotiation, the accused agreed to reduce the bribe amount to Rs 40,000.
ìCBI laid a trap on April 26, 2025, and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from the complainant. Subsequently, the accused was arrested by CBI and a search was conducted at the residential premises of the accused,î the spokesperson said.
