Anantnag, Oct 25: The Special Judge designated under the NDPS Act at Anantnag, Manzoor Ahmad Khan, on Saturday convicted Bashir Ahmad Bhat, son of Gull Mohammad Bhat, a resident of Waghama, Bijbehara, in connection with FIR No. 230/2021 registered at Police Station Bijbehara under Sections 8 & 15 of the NDPS Act.

During the course of the investigation, authorities recovered 70 kilograms of poppy straw from an Alto 800 vehicle bearing registration number JK18A-1097. The accused was intercepted while driving the vehicle from Anantnag towards Sangam.

Following a detailed trial, including the examination of evidence and witnesses, the court found Bashir Ahmad Bhat guilty of the offence under the NDPS Act. The case has been listed for Oct 27 for the pronouncement of the quantum of punishment. The prosecution was represented by Sr Prosecuting Officer Arif Majeed Romshoo, who effectively presented the evidence and arguments on behalf of the State.
