Country deprived of a great leader today, says Farooq Abdullah on Yechury's demise

Srinagar, Sep 12: National Conference (NC) president Dr Farooq Abdullah Thursday expressed grief over the sad demise of CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury, terming his departure ‘a great loss to the country’.

Yechury, who was General Secretary of CPI(M) and was unwell from last few months breathed his last today at AIIMS. He was 72.

“He was a very dear friend and India is now deprived of such a great leader who spoke freely for people. His views were that his country belongs to all of us, no matter which language you belong to,” Dr Farooq said.

He said everyone has to leave this world. “You came from there and you have to return back there. Today I cannot believe that he is no more among us,” he said.
