Cops perform last rites of unidentified deceased in Rajouri
Rajouri, Mar 16: In a noble initiative, the police personnel from Jammu and Kashmir police assisted by a few civil society members carried out cremation and other last rites of a man, unidentified, whose body was recovered few days ago in Rajouri town area.
As per reports, an identified man was found dead last month in area of Khandli bridge in Rajouri town after which his body was shifted to the mortuary room of Government Medical College Rajouri.
Even after passage of several days, the body remain unidentified and no one turned up to claim it.
Incharge Police Post GMC Rajouri, SI Mohammad Shabir said that the body of this man was lying in mortuary from last more than one month and all attempts to identify him failed.
“We decided to conduct the cremation and last rites of the body with the help of a few civil society members and the cremation has been done on Saturday evening at cremation ground of Rajouri town,”he said.
Former councillor of Municipal Council Rajouri, Rajesh Gupta said that it is moral and human responsibility of every citizen that a body should get dignified last rites.
He said that no one turned to claim the body of this man which remain unidentified even after weeks after which the police personnel of Rajouri GMC police post decided to take the responsibility of conducting last rites and cremation has been done.
