CONTEMPT PLEA | High Court directs Kashmir University Vice Chancellor, Registrar to remain present today

The State opposed his 2018 plea for compensation on the ground that it was filed after a nine-year delay, although the authorities admitted that the electrocution incident took place.

Srinagar, Mar 14:  The High Court of J&K and Ladakh on Thursday asked the Vice Chancellor and Registrar of Kashmir University to remain personally present before the Court at 11 am today in connection with a contempt plea.

As the matter came up before the division bench of Justice Atul Sreedharan and Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi, counsel representing the Kashmir University submitted that the VC and Registrar had a meeting with the Chancellor of the University of Kashmir. “Under the circumstances, list this case tomorrow i.e., 15th March 2024,” the bench said, adding “in the meanwhile, the contemnor Nos. 1 (Vice Chancellor) and 2 (Registrar) shall remain personally present before this Court at 11:00 am.”

On March 13, the Court had asked the VC to join from Jammu the proceedings of a contempt case through Video Conferencing even as the Registrar and a concerned Assistant Registrar were directed to remain present before the court.

An aggrieved employee, Zahoor Hussain through senior advocate B A Bashir has approached the court with the contention that the concerned authorities of the Varsity are not complying with the directions of court and in this way are violating the court orders.
