Congress must reconsider its decision to support NC: Mehbooba
Anantnag, Apr 21: PDP President Mehbooba Mufti today urged Congress to reconsider its decision to support National Conference (NC) in parliamentary polls.
Talking to media persons at Larnoo in Anantnag, she said this has become imperative after former legislator, Choudhary Mohamed Akram, who recent joined NC equated Congress with the BJP.
“Akram sahab could not say anything worse than drawing an analogy between Congress and BJP. While joining the National Conference he said that there is no difference between Congress and BJP. The Congress workers should think if they are aligning with the National Conference which considers them as the B-team of BJP,” Mehbooba said.
She said that the National Conference leadership in past used to refer to Congress workers as the worms of the gutter and subjected them to social boycott.
Referring to the disunity between PDP and NC, Mehbooba said that PDP always desired to go along with NC and other parties but unfortunately NC did not want it. “Even the NC workers wanted us to remain together, but their leaders were not in favour of it,” said Mehbooba. She said that even National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah did not bother to ask her about the seat-sharing agreement.
She accused the NC leadership of stating that PDP has been finished. “How PDP can be finished, It has revoked POTA, disbanded Ikhwan, opened up routes and initiated a dialogue process,” Mehbooba said.
She said that if PDP had finished, you would have not seen “a sea of people in our rallies.” “The people will themselves tell through their votes if PDP has been finished or is alive in their hearts,” said Mehbboba.
