Congress launches grassroot outreach campaign ‘Sanghathan Srijan Abhiyaan’ in Kashmir
Anantnag, Nov 24: The Congress on Monday launched its Sanghathan Srijan Abhiyaan in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, beginning what party leaders described as an intensified grassroots outreach campaign across Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing reporters at Dak Bungalow, Khanabal, AICC observer for Anantnag district Rafeek Khan who is also the MLA from Adarsh Nagar (Jaipur) and Chief Whip of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly said the organisational drive was aimed at reconnecting the party with people on the ground. “The initiative focuses on strengthening the party’s district- and block-level structures, expanding membership, empowering local workers and identifying emerging young leaders,” Khan said. He added that the program is being reviewed across Jammu and Kashmir “to ensure it is effectively implemented ahead of upcoming political challenges.” “I will be meeting people and will take their suggestions to the central leadership to strengthen the party and elect capable leaders at the grass root level,” he said. Khan said the Congress had “gone through a tough phase” but added that “now it will rise.” He said the organisational exercise “has already been carried out in eight states - Rajasthan, Haryana, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh,” and added, “It is on in other states and UTs.” Senior Congress leaders, including district president Zafar Farooq Salati, former MLA Indu Pawar and Shaheena Nadaf, were present at the briefing along with party workers.
Khan also reiterated the party’s allegations against the BJP, accusing it of implementing what he called a “SIR policy” during the recent Bihar elections. According to him, the policy resulted in the removal of migrant laborers from voter lists. “The migrant laborers who are working in different states of the country — Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat, etc. were shown absent in the voter list,” Khan said. He added that the Congress believes “the BJP would be repeating the same in every election.” In response, Khan said the party is rolling out a nationwide awareness initiative under the banner ‘Vote Choori’ (vote theft) to highlight what the Congress claims are attempts to manipulate the electoral process. “We will reach each and every part of the country to make people aware of this,” he said.
