Congress holds protests across various J&K districts against MGNREGA amendments
Srinagar, Jan 25: Congress party held series of protests in different districts all across J&K to press for early restoration of statehood and MGNREGA Bachao campaign of the party.
As part of the party's nationwide campaign MGNREGA Bachao Sangram and the JKPCC movement for restoration of statehood under the banner "Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq”, several protests and outreach program were held in different districts of Jammu province as well as Kashmir region to register strong reaction.
The AICC launched “MGNREGA Bachao Sangram” against the repeal of the famous rural job guarantee scheme from January 10 and is going on in various parts of J&K regions,in a phased manner including District, block and Panchayat levels outreach campaign and protests, sit in dharnas etc. The schedule includes sit in dharnas at all headquarters on the martyrdom day Mahatma Gandhi on January 30 besides dharnas, gheraos of seat of power in different states in first week of February, said a press release.
Protests were held at Thandaoani in Block Siot and Pyt Nala in block Devak in Sunderbani- Kalakote Assembly District Rajouri led by Coordinator Nain Chand Sharma ,Block Presidents Ajit Singh and Tirth Ram Sharma & others. They raised strong slogans against centre government for removing MGNREGA scheme and failure to restore statehood.
Another outreach program was held in Bhaderwah area of Doda district led by Former MLA and PCC observer Ashok Dogra and President Doda Javed Lone.The participants demanded restoration of full statehood to J&K and good features of MGNREGA and stressed to carry the campaign till the scheme is restored.
Another outreach campaign was held in Kishtwar district led by PCC President Pyare Lal Shan, alongwith Irshad Sheikh raising slogans against centre government for replacing the MGNREGA scheme and demanded its restoration besides statehood. Senior Congress leader and block President Rangil Singh also held MGNREGA Bachao campaign and restoration of statehood in Paddar area of Kishtwar district.
