Congress hits back after appeasement accusations
New Delhi, Dec 8: The Congress on Monday countered Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s criticism of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru during Lok Sabha debate on Vande Mataram.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi said that the Congress had “broken into pieces” the national song in the name of social harmony and continued to pursue “appeasement politics.”
He also accused Nehru of agreeing to the view that Vande Mataram could alienate Muslims. Responding sharply, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh dismissed the Prime Minister’s remarks, calling him “the Master Distorian”.
In a post on X, Jairam Ramesh posed three questions.
He asked: Which Indian leader formed a coalition in Bengal in the early 1940s with the proposer of the Pakistan Resolution? - Answering himself, Ramesh pointed to Syama Prasad Mookerjee.
Which Indian leader praised Muhammad Ali Jinnah during a visit to Karachi in June 2005? - “LK Advani,” he wrote.
Which Indian leader lauded Jinnah in a 2009 book? - “Jaswant Singh,” he said.
