Compassion for stray animals | Khushi P Gillani donates proceeds of fundraiser to Animal Husbandry Department
Srinagar, Dec 29: Animal rights activist Khushi P Gillani, following the success of her fundraising event, today donated medicines, food and other items worth Rs one lakh to the Animal Husbandry Department and a local NGO for welfare of stray animals.
Earlier, Khushi showcased a variety of beautifully crafted organic candles at a unique stall during an exhibition as part of the 'Prayas' event. The proceeds from the candle sale were dedicated to the welfare of street dogs.
Speaking to Greater Kashmir, Khushi said that she donated the entire proceeds of the event to the Animal Husbandry department and an NGO.
"I had an exhibition where I sold candles. I earned around rupees one lakh. I am donating the entire proceeds to the Animal Husbandry department and an NGO. I am not giving cash. I asked them what they required, so then I bought stuff that they said they needed. For the hospital, they asked for injections, antibiotics, bandages, and everything like that for the stray dogs,” she said.
She said that the NGO asked for cat and dog food, and she provided that to them.
From a young age, Khushi displayed a compassion for abandoned creatures ignored by society. “As a child, I brought street dogs’ home, feeding them. This love has only grown,” she earlier said.
Her dedication to animal welfare was further showcased in her 2022 initiative, organizing a special exhibition cum sale of home-baked items to raise funds for feeding strays during the winter.
Khushi said the importance of such events in creating awareness and vowed to continue organizing them in the future.
Khushi’s mother, PallaviGillani said that her daughter’s commitment to the welfare of stray dogs serves as an inspiring example, reminding us all that small actions can lead to significant positive changes in Kashmir.
Looking ahead, Khushi aspires to be an entrepreneur dedicated to aiding street dogs. Reflecting on her internship in a Srinagar hotel, she mentioned using her baking skills to contribute to the cause.
